General terms

Version of 25 Oct 2026

These terms apply to everyone who uses We Made Room: students, host families and visitors. Institutions also have their own terms.

1. What We Made Room does

We Made Room puts international students aged 18 or over in touch with host families checked by We Made Room (section 2), collects the price of each stay for the family and pays the family.

We Made Room is not a party to the stay: the stay is agreed between the student and the family, by the template contract. We Made Room does not handle emergencies during a stay and does not guarantee another home if a stay stops.

Each family says whether it hosts as a private individual or as a professional, and its page shows it. With a private family, consumer law does not apply to the contract between the student and the family; these terms, between the student and We Made Room, always apply.

2. Access

A family or an institution signs in with a link sent by email. A student acts through a personal link received by email, without an account. These links are personal: whoever holds one acts in your name, so do not share them.

A student must be 18 or over on the day of arrival, and gives their real name and date of birth: the family may ask to see their identity document on arrival. A family's listing is published only after a check of its rooms, photos and signed charter; the family can accept a request only once the identity of one adult is checked too, online. Such a family carries the badge "Verified".

3. Requests and choice

A stay lasts at least 14 nights, with no maximum. The arrival is at least 7 days after the request, and at most 12 months.

A student may have up to 3 requests open at once, with different families. A family answers within 48 hours, or, while the identity check of its adult is not finished, within 5 days but no later than 4 days before the arrival. By accepting, it commits to host the student if chosen.

The student chooses within 48 hours of each acceptance. Choosing a family closes the other requests.

4. Formalities

Within 5 days of the choice, and at the latest 2 days before the arrival, the student signs the template contract and saves a payment method. Without these formalities, the stay is cancelled at no cost.

5. Price and payment

The price is per night. Each family sets the price of its rooms; We Made Room adds its service fee, a percentage of the family's price, taxes included, the same for everyone. The price is the same whatever the length of the stay, and is fixed when the request is sent.

The stay is paid in periods of 28 nights, charged automatically: the first 60 days before the arrival, the next ones 30 days before they start, or at once when that day is past. Payments are processed by Stripe, which sends the receipt.

A refused payment is tried again, up to 4 attempts in all. If the first period is not paid 7 days before the arrival, the stay is cancelled at no cost. If a later period is not paid when it starts, the stay ends at the end of the last period paid.

Each side receives the other's contact details once the first period is paid.

6. Cancellation by the student

More than 60 days before the arrival, cancelling costs nothing. From 60 to 8 days before, the first 7 nights are due; 7 days or less before, the first 14 nights. These nights are counted at the price of the stay, and the rest of what was charged is refunded automatically.

A stay is about accommodation on set dates: the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to it (Code de la consommation, article L221-28). These cancellation rules apply instead.

7. Cancellation by the family

The family may cancel until the arrival. The student is then refunded in full, and may send new requests.

A cancellation by the family 60 days or less before the arrival is late: the fees Stripe kept on the stay's payments, which the refund does not give back, are withheld from the family's next payouts. A second late cancellation within 12 months suspends the family automatically: it leaves the catalogue and its payouts wait until We Made Room has looked into it, then puts it back or closes its profile.

8. Leaving early, staying longer, changing family

The student may leave early with 7 nights' notice. The nights due run to the end of the notice, or to the real departure if later, with at least 14 nights in all, at the price per night of the stay. The rest is refunded and the next periods are not charged. The amount refunded is shown before the departure is confirmed.

The stay can be made longer from its page: whoever pays asks for a later departure, and the family accepts it or not within 48 hours. The contract then runs to that date, on the same terms and at the same price per night, and the new nights are charged and paid like the others. Coming back to the same family later is a new request, made from its page.

Changing family is an early departure followed by a new request.

9. Problems

In danger, call the emergency services and the police of the country of the stay, whose numbers are on the emergency sheet. We Made Room is not an emergency service and ensures nobody's safety: a report is read later, by a person, and leads only to decisions about the service (holding payouts, suspending a family). Any problem is reported on the page of the stay, by the student, the family or the institution, until 14 days after the stay. A report from the student or the institution holds the family's payouts for the stay until We Made Room has reviewed it; a report suspends nobody automatically.

If the student does not arrive, the family says so within 48 hours. The student has 48 hours to contest it; without that, the rule of a late cancellation applies.

When a report proves the family at fault, We Made Room may refund more than these rules provide.

10. For host families

The family is paid by Stripe, on its own Stripe account, for each set of 7 nights, 48 hours after the set starts. We Made Room is paid by the difference between the price the student pays and the amount the family receives, shown to the family with each request.

For a family whose home is in the European Union, We Made Room must declare the amounts paid to it to the tax administration every year (DAC7 directive, article 242 bis of the Code général des impôts). Every family finds a yearly summary of them in its space. The family declares its income itself, to the tax administration of the country where it pays its taxes; for France, the rules are on impots.gouv.fr and urssaf.fr.

We Made Room does not check the family's home insurance: the family checks with its insurer that hosting a student is covered.

The family declares whether it hosts as a private individual or as a professional, a professional with its registration number, and corrects it when that changes: the law asks the site to show it to students.

11. Order of the catalogue

By default, the catalogue shows first the families whose household is verified (the identity of one adult checked), then the others. In each group, the order is drawn at random every morning, the same for everyone for the whole day, one room of each family in turn: a family with several rooms is shown no sooner than a family with one.

A student who says what matters to them (diet, languages, smoking, pets) sees first the families that fit the most of it, then the others, in the order of the day between equals; nothing is hidden. The catalogue can also be sorted by price or by rating. No family pays to appear higher.

12. Reviews

Only a student who stayed with a family can review it, once, at the end of the stay. The student and the family each have 14 days. The student's review is published once the family has given its own, or at the end of the 14 days, so the family writes without having read it. The family's review of the student is read by We Made Room only, and is never published.

Every student's review is published, whatever its rating, from the most recent. We Made Room may hide one that breaks the law or these terms; its author is told the reason, and how to contest it. Nobody is paid for a review.

13. Content and reports

A family is responsible for its profile, its texts and its photos, which must be true. Anyone may report content that seems illegal by writing to hello@wemaderoom.com: We Made Room answers and may remove it.

To write to We Made Room, use English or French: the team reads both.

Before a stay is confirmed, the phone numbers, email addresses, links and street addresses written in the messages are hidden automatically. A message reported by the other side pauses the conversation until the team has read it.

We Made Room may refuse or remove a profile, a text or a photo, hide a review, suspend a family while it looks into a report or a doubt, or close its profile, when they break the law, the host family charter or these terms. Each of these decisions is taken by a person, but for the suspension after a second late cancellation (section 7), which is automatic and then looked into by a person; the person concerned is told the reason and how to contest it: by writing to hello@wemaderoom.com within six months, the decision is looked into again. The courts remain open.

To write to We Made Room, use English or French: the team reads both.

When a report gives grounds to suspect an offence threatening someone's life or safety, We Made Room informs the police, as the law requires (Digital Services Act, article 18).

14. Responsibility

We Made Room answers for the service it provides: putting in touch, payments and checks of the families. It does not answer for what happens in the home during a stay, which is between the student and the family, and ensures nobody's safety there.

15. Personal data

How your data is used, kept and deleted is set out in the privacy policy.

16. Changes, law and disputes

A new version of these terms applies to the requests sent after it; a stay already requested keeps the version accepted.

These terms are governed by French law.

There's always room for one more.
